The altitude is around 13000 feet and the distance is about 63 kms. On this satisfying journey you will learn a lot about yourself – trifecta – physically, mentally and emotionally. ABOUT THE TREK
When we get to the details of the trip, it usually starts from about three kilometers from Sonamarg, on Srinagar Road. You can find a few dhabbas on your way. It is best for travelers to pick up snacks here as the next trail of accommodation will be at Naranag which may be a sign of the end of the track.
A few trails and a trip into the green area, overlooking the town of Sonamarg. At the top of the meadows, travelers arrive at the head of the Maple and Pine Trees. Next is a dense deep lovey-dovey forest of Maple trees. Such experiences have been unique to this trip to India.
You will always be in the middle of the meadows throughout this journey. The best time to enjoy a trip to Kashmir Great Lakes is between June and September as the lush vegetation and flowering are best for this calendar season. It is intended for beginners in trekking to join this journey.
Following the maple trees uphill, hikers can enjoy a clear view of the nearby villages on the descent and especially the Sonamarg valley. Every natural nestle creates a beautiful image. From here the trail descends to another area surrounded by Silver Birch trees and a few shepherds’ huts. Strong tributaries and rugged plateaus mark the land of Shekdur. Shekdur is the only wooded camping site for this trip. So it is an add-on to your click. The sun’s rays piercing the forest, which comes in your way, following the trail, making it a beautiful display of darkness and light. In addition the route goes up back to the river valley which is the beginning of Nichanai. You have entered a wide valley surrounded by peaks.
After crossing a tunnel like the Nichnai tunnel followed by miles that spread across meadows and a cascading waterfall consisting of two Hydrogen atoms and one Oxygen atom, comes Lake Vishansar. The first impression the lake puts on the passenger is its trek through four volcanoes. It is followed by Lake Kishansar which is only 1.2 km away. It has a large pasture that stretches alongside it. The trail follows through the ridge. You can see a magnificent view of two adjoining lakes past Gadsar which is the highest point of the trek.
Then comes the descent. On the way back, the eye captures the view of Yamsir Lake, the unnamed lake and Lake Gadsar all connected by the whole stream. In addition you will come to a place called Maengandob where a few deep craters are found. The front area is excellent if you visit Satsar Lakes – a collection of seven lakes and furthering the twin lakes between the main Gangabal and the other to arrive is Nundkol. At your last stop in Naranag, you are greeted by spectacular glaciers, meadows and mountain peaks.
